Scottish Borders Council provides an education service for 3 to 18 year olds as well as lifelong learning opportunities for adults. The local education system aims to help every student achieve their potential and supports the development of a culture of ambition and success.
Both primary and secondary schools work with local businesses and have ongoing enterprise programmes. In addition, every school is registered as an Eco school looking at a wide range of environment issues.
The Borders has a very good record on inclusion for pupils with additional needs and all but 0.3% of pupils with additional needs attend their local primary or secondary school. There are special resources units for children with complex behavioural needs and two autistic spectrum units.
Community learning opportunities are focused on adult literacy, youth work and building community capacity.
