Textiles and Design

The Scottish Borders is often referred to as 'Scotlands Premier Textile Manufacturing Region', as well as being home to Heriot Watt's world class School of Textile and Design. 

Textiles is a key source of employment in the Borders accounting for around 3,000 jobs.

Although the industry has seen major changes over the past few years, there are important growth opportunities such as higher-value activities around technical textiles and fashion/design.

The textile industry in the Borders stretches as far back as the 13th century, learn more about the Borders history at Borders Textile Towerhouse, Hawick.  Alternatively follow the Textile Trail - a trail involving ten different textile companies in the Borders, celebrating the wonderful tweed and knitwear industry.

School of Textiles and Design

The Scottish Borders Campus of Heriot Watt University is home to the world renowned School of Textiles and Design.
 
Since its beginnings the School has specialised in the education of professionals and practitioners in the global textile and clothing industry and has established a reputation as one of the world's leading textile institutions.
